Donald E. "Don" Walker, age 78, of Keota, Iowa died Monday, October 15, 2012 at his residence after a decline in health.
Celebration of life services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Prairie Flower Baptist Church with Pastor Don Collings and Pastor Tim Hadley officiating. Visitation will begin noon Saturday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Saturday. Private family interment will take place at the Competine Cemetery near Farson, Iowa at a later date. Memorials have been established for Prairie Flower Baptist Church or the Keota First Responders. Don was born May 24, 1934 in New London, Iowa the son of Dale E. and Alice C. Walker. He graduated from Farson High School. On December 23, 1956, Don was united in marriage to Mary A. Leeper in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Don has resided in Keota, Iowa since 2002 and had previously lived throughout the Midwest. He owned and operated Don Walker Chevrolet in Washington, Iowa from 1977 until 1981. Prior to that, Don managed tractor supply stores in Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska and Illinois. He was a member of the Prairie Flower Baptist Church. Don served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Walker of Keota, Iowa; daughter, Cindy Blunier and husband Gary of Little Rock, Arkansas; daughter, Kerry Hadley and husband Joe of Richland, Iowa; son Randy Walker and wife Maria of Adel, Iowa; ten grandchildren:Janel Breitenstein and husband John of Kampala, Uganda; Jennifer Hopkinson and husband Dr. Chris of Sheffield, England; Keri Helmick and husband Steven of Little Rock, Arkansas; Kelli Spurlock and husband Stephen of Mae Sot, Thailand; Tim Hadley and wife Bethany of Ollie, Iowa; Tom Hadley and wife Christine of Delta, Iowa; D.J. Hadley and wife Victoria of Victor, Iowa; Deanna Ankrum and husband Travis of North English, Iowa; Aaron Walker of Denver, Colorado; Adam Walker of Adel, Iowa; and ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters: Wilma Whittington of Farson, Iowa; Lola Chambers of Mesa, Arizona; Eunice Yeager of Martinsburg, Iowa; and two brothers, Dale J. Walker and wife Shirley of Farson, Iowa; and Derald Walker and wife Lucille of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law.
